Two Postdoctoral Research Fellows

- Full-time fixed term for two years (with possible extension for one year), remuneration up to $108K p.a. which includes base salary, leave loading and up to 17% superannuation
We are seeking two Postdoctoral Research Fellows to take leading roles in a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) funded project examining bias in nutrition research. We will apply our multidisciplinary perspective and methods of systematic review, meta-analysis, modelling and network mapping to investigate whether and where bias exists in the design, conduct and publication of nutrition research. We will quantify the influence of bias at all stages in the research—from research agenda to publication. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to innovate methods, establish an independent program of research, engage in collaborative projects, and disseminate the findings in the peer-reviewed scientific literature and to relevant stakeholders. Our goal is to improve the design, conduct and evaluation of nutrition research and the evidence base for dietary recommendations.
About you
Specifically you will:
- undertake significant research in the area of influences on research evidence and health recommendations prepare and present research outcomes in journal papers and conferences
- engage in multidisciplinary scholarly activities consistent with the mission of the Charles Perkins Centre
- participate in the group’s academic and operational meetings
- undertake continuing professional development activities in ethics/health services research/ evidence synthesis.
To be successful you need to meet the below Selection Criteria:
Essential:
- PhD in epidemiology, health policy, public health, clinical epidemiology, nutrition or other relevant field
- theoretical background in risks of bias, ethics or conflicts of interest in health-related fields
- strong quantitative skills
- experience in the design, conduct and reporting of systematic reviews, including meta-analysis and the assessment of reporting bias
- expertise in working through problems systematically and cooperatively with colleagues and implementing agreed solutions
- demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
- demonstrated ability to manage team-based research projects and to work with an international multi-disciplinary research team.
- experience or success with competitive grants process
- experience mentoring postgraduate, honours and summer students or supervisory experience
- experience in preparation of research protocols and ethics applications
